Gracie's Diary. Don't Judge Me.

Dear Diary,
When you're owned by a human, nothing makes sense.  Seriously.  Now take my human for instance.  First of all, she yells at me for the strangest things.  I mean...  wouldn't you bark and lunge at a big round rock that was laying on the ground in front of you if it CAME TO LIFE and started growing arms, legs, and YES...  a head?!  And if it had the meanest eyes you'd ever seen!

Ok.  That's just one of the many reasons why my human Mom is driving me a tad bit crazy these days.

Then it's every single night...  'Gracie, roll over and let me check for bugs...'  Before she even gets to the 'over' part, I'm on my back with my legs in the air.  Whatever.  It feels good to have her scour through my belly hair and if she wishes to look for..  bugs..  then.. so be it.

Then there's the bath thing.  It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of water.  Yea, yea, yea..  I know a lot of the dogs out there would give anything to be able to jump into a big body of water and according to mom, most dogs love their bath-time (I'd like to put her through the polygraph on that one) Hey...  don't judge me.

Now she (my human who just happens to be my mom) says I've just about got through the whole summer without bugs, and I'm not even 'protected' whatever that means.

So why the surprise bath early yesterday morning?  Does she get a kick out of torturing me?

I'm thinkin'!

Then to top it off, she wants to have this ridiculous photo session.  'Gracie, your fur has grown in and you look so adorable'.  She says.

'And Gracie, I'm having a good hair day' today.  Ahem...  If that's a good hair day then pack my bags and send me to the forest to live among the wild animals...  cuz this lady has gone bonkers!

And maybe it's time to set me free...  to bark at rocks that come to life and chase squirrly-friends up trees and run like the wind and..  Well, you get the picture.

Mom keeps sticking her nose in my fur and telling me I smell good.   I sure don't smell like chickie bird or grilled steak.  I smell  girly.  She is one strange chic!  Very strange.  Gracie.

Where We Live

I don't think this Peeping Tom was actually looking in our window to see us.  Our windows are tinted and we can see out but if someone looks in it would be like looking into a mirror.  Often birds will fly into the window thinking it's not a window.

So I guess this guy was looking at himself.

Smile!
Yesterday we decided to do something a little different.
About ten minutes from where we live is a historical site called canal place.  The draw for me is the towpath there.

There, we can walk the dog and we can
 enjoy nature.

Gracie was not impressed at all with this replica
of the canal boat ~ THE CUMBERLAND.

But she did find the residents of Canal Place
quite interesting..

And just because she owns me, she thinks she owns everyone and everything...

But Timmy Turtle was not impressed.

First he yawned... then he rolled his eyes...  then he retreated back into the place he calls home.

You'd think living so close that we'd come here more often.  It's beautiful.

But you know how it is.  We get so caught up in our routine walks around the neighborhood that we forget about the little paradise's  just minutes away...

As the sky began to fade to dark, we headed for home.

 Satisfied.  But tired.

Mission Accomplished

Friday was an overnighter with the granddaughter.  We've been keeping her overnight since she was just weeks old and now she she asks early in the week...

"Grammy, can I stay with you on Friday?"

Saying Goodbye to Mama.  Lindsey's 5 months pregnant.  Can you tell?

The days of diaper changing and
bottle feeding are gone for now.

Now it's more like,
"Grammy I can't let you through unless
 you say the magic words".

OR

"Make breakfast for my friend Justin, too"

or

"Grammy, don't sit there... Justin's sitting there."
(Justin is Rissa's invisible Power Rangers friend.)

At night she falls to her knees and closes her eyes tightly.
And it's there that she sees God.

Each time she asks God to bless someone, her hands clench tighter and tighter...  as though God will hear her and grant her request, should her prayers be accompanied by tightly clenched eyes and hands.

And He will.

Matthew 18:3   Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Dear Diary,

Let me quote something my Mom used to say.  'Gracie!  I should have named you Trouble!'  That line had been dropped for some time ~ but it is now back.  Well, this is the thing...  her and Dad were hiding underneath the dining room table with the little cookie kid, and I was getting absolutely no attention whatsoever...  so I decided to take matters into my own paws, so to speak.  Or jaws ~  whatever way you might want to look at it.  I chewed up an old coloring book that Mom says her and Lindsey used to color pictures in when Lindsey was a little girl ~ like the cookie kid.  I'm not sorry I did it.  I got the attention I was looking for. Mission accomplished.  Gracie.
