Hobnobbing and Bargain Bras

More of:   MINI VACATION IN MAYBERRY

Below is the cabin we stayed in.  This place was sweet!!  In all of my travels, I can't remember a place more clean, cozy, and 'feel-good'!  I'll take you inside in another post...

But for now, meet some of our new friends from
our stay at Holly Hills Cabin...

Talk about feeling welcome!

Even the animals were friendly!!

It was a little on the chilly side.  I'd love to go back in warmer weather when I can enjoy the outdoors more.

Today we got a package from the owner of the place.  Gary left some of his shirts in the closet and he was kind enough to send them to us.

Just look at these cute faces.

Who could ask for better neighbors!

Below... the view outside the kitchen window.

 More friends...

When we weren't hobnobbing with the neighbors, we were in town looking for bargains.

Have you ever went to one of those 'bargain bin' venues where they have hundreds of boxes of 'made in china' faux brand name items.

Like for example instead of Sharpies for $4 they
sell Sharlies for $1.

Or instead of Duracell batteries for $6 they
have Ducachell for $1.  ??

I will have to admit, I've fallen victim to this
deception myself on occasion.

BUT>

Who. In. Their. Right. Mind. >

would purchase a $2 bargain bra?

An Accomplice?

Mayberry, NC

Doing the Town...

Gary was pretty happy...  we just happened
on a car show right in the heart of town.

The infamous Barber shop where Andy and all the gang got their hair cut.

Well, I guess it was modeled after this place...

And low and behold, it just happened to be Floyd's birthday celebration.  We were greeted warmly the moment we walked in the door and everyone kept asking us where we were from.

"Come on over, sit down... have some cake!"

One thing is for sure.
People in Mayberry (Mt. Airy) N.C.
 are F-R-I-E-N-D-L-Y!!

Wow!  There was Floyd!  He was turning 88 and still cutting hair!  Gary said, "Yep, that's the real Floyd alright!"

Hey, I'm pretty gullible...  and he LOOKED like he could be the real Floyd.

I was disappointed to find out that he was wasn't the real Floyd.  But...

Andy's real life cousin and (cousins son) were there (above)...  so that made up for the fake Floyd disappointment.

We had fun going about town, checking out the museums...

And visiting Opie's Candy Store...

"I knew I shouldn't have lifted those licorice sticks!"

"Accomplice?  What's an accomplice?"

MIGHTY BUSY

Been mighty busy since returning from Mayberry, NC.

Mighty busy!

I guess I should start sharing some tidbits from our trip....

Dear Diary,

I promise I'll never sass again.  I'll never wake mom up before sunrise and I won't give her dirty looks when she refuses to take me for a walk.  I will eat all of my food and I won't drag it all over the floor.  I'll be the model pet.  I promise!!  And as Dorothy once said..  and I quote..  'there's no place like home...'  Gracie.

Seeing the Girls and Mini Vacation

Summer is still sick.  She has a horrible cough.  We stopped by to see the girls tonight and Gary played with Rissi while I rocked my 'lil Kitten (Summer).

Sometimes she purrs...  when she's just about to fall off to sleep she'll make the cutest sound of contentment.  That's one of the reasons I call her my kitten.

I rocked her to sleep in my arms

Rissi - pretending

As soon as she's put down - wide awake!

Gary is taking me on a surprise mini vacation this weekend.. well, it's not a surprise anymore because I kind of guessed.

We're renting a cabin in Mt. Airy, NC - home of Mayberry Days and Andy Griffith.  I'm pretty excited because I've always loved The Andy Griffith Show and I'm a huge fan of the 'simple life' that was portrayed in the show.

It's about a 6 hour drive down through Virginia and into North Carolina.  It will be good to get away for a few days.

Shhh...  don't tell Gracie.
