Monarch Butterflies and Other Stuff

I'd been waiting on this all summer...  for a Monarch butterfly to be flitting around the wildflowers that we planted in the spring.  After all, the flowers we chose were supposed to attract all kinds of butterflies.  I only ever saw a couple, and they looked more like moths than butterflies.

This time of year is bittersweet.  The cool mornings are refreshing, and as summer slowly melts away and becomes autumn, I begin to focus on cinnamon spice lotions and candles, multicolored leaves, and decor that includes tiny petrified squash and pumpkins and scented pine cones wrapped in ribbon.

But enough of that.  It's not fall yet, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I want to point out a petunia growing in this flower bed in front of our house.   In the spring, this soil was dug up and forget-me-not's  were spread out over the entire area.  The forget-me-not's forgot about us and never amounted to anything.  The hot dry weather this summer could have played a part in that... I don't know for sure. But this one sweet petunia sprouted up about a month or so ago and it refuses to give up the ghost.

I know people like that.  Strong people who refuse to let circumstance get in their way of being the best they can be.  I want to be like that.

Did I tell you how happy Gracie was to  see me when I picked her up from the kennel on Tuesday?   The kennel owner was busy and he told us to go back and let her out of her kennel area.  When we opened her door she whimpered and cried and ran like the wind down the long corridor towards the door before noticing that we were not behind her.  She put on her brakes and slid on the shiny floor about two yards before being able to stop and turn around.  LOL.  That's my Gracie.

Mini Vacation

Mini Vacations are a lot of work. You spend most of your time packing and unpacking. Is it worth it?

Jake and Marissa thought so...

Ok, so it wasn't Earl yet... but Danielle I think...  tossing some pretty radical waves  Sunday.

But Jake wasn't about to let big ol' Danielle throw a wrench in his fun...

So we played on the beach...

Spent a night at the boardwalk...

Baked a cake...

Fixed Lasagna...

Did some grooming...

Ate out at really neat places with fun things to do...

Did I say.... licked the cake frosting bowl???

Met a beautiful Rescue dog named Boomer...

Stayed up late watching Scooby Doo...

Ate cookies till we couldn't eat no more...

Played some more on the beach...

Shared stories...

Enjoyed popcorn while watching Winnie The Pooh...

.... and did really silly stuff.

Our mini vacation might have been a lot of work, but it was worth it.

A Dog's Life

Dear Diary,

My human, who calls herself Mom, has lost her marbles.  No,  really.  I knew she was kind of wacky when on our walks she started putting my defecation in bags and bringing it home with us.  One day she's yelling at me for doing such a thing on the floor, next day she's dragging it home from afar.  Who can figure her out?

But I put up with her and her shenanigans because she does toss me  some pretty tasty treats once in a while.  However... the lady has a lot of fun at my expense.

This outfit's five years old for crying out loud!  I've put on a few pounds since then.  When I heard her saying "oh, Gracie... look what I found..." I knew I was in trouble.  But what the heck, gotta keep  her happy.

It wasn't bad enough that she poured me into a dress that barely fits... but then she parades me outside for all the world to see.  Ugh!

I'm going to bed now and I'm going to try to forget this day ever happened.  Gracie.
