Taking a Bullet for Someone You Love

I've often heard the phrase 'I'd take a bullet for you' and thought...  yea, right.  I can't think of anyone I would take a bullet for.  I must be s-e-l-f-i-s-h!

But then again, do we even realize what we would do until the time comes?

Would I risk my life to save my grandchildren
from a burning building?

I'm sure I would!

Would I push Gary out of the way so the oncoming train would crash into me instead?

There's a good chance.

Would I lunge toward my dog, forgetting about how old I am and how breaking just one bone in my body could lay me up for months, saving her from running out of the garage door as she follows me to the laundry room and I realize that Gary has the garage door opened?

Well, yes I would!

Maybe I'm not as selfish as I thought I was.

OUCH!  BUT NO BROKEN BONES.

Dear Diary,
I don't know what all the fuss was about.  Firstly, I've always known that the nag Mom is crazy about me.  She can't live without me and that's a fact.  First thing in the morning... it's all about me.  Second thing in the morning... me, me, me..  Third thing...  well, you get the picture.  She's always got my back.  This brings me to the overprotective part.  A dog needs some space, ya know.  It is not necessary to drag me through the air by my harness (into the house) to save me from breaking my rope and charging at the annoying german shepherd walking its master down our sidewalk.  It is overkill.  I mean, really.  She's so dramatic.  AND the way she lunged at me a few weeks ago when I went to the laundry room to help her do the laundry...  shielding me from 'escaping' out the garage door?  There is that word escape..  huh...  I must be in prison if I need to escape.  Oh, and get this.  Then she takes me back over to the laundry room (after the fact) to re-enact the whole darn thing so she can take pictures and blog about it. This is one wacko wooman if ya get my drift.  Gracie.

I've A Feeling We're Not In Kansas anymore...

"I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore..."  I whispered as I waited for our ticket confirmation.

unique picture on hotel wall

The Grand where The Jason Bishop Show was being performed was majestic.  Well, actually his show was in the Baby Grand right next door.  But first we had to go to the box office at the Grand to get the tickets that Jason had put back for us.

Someone once told me that this world would be a pretty boring place if everyone were the same.  What a profound statement.  This town proved to be very entertaining.  And I'm not just talking about the show...  LOL>

Pinocchio, the ballet was playing at the Grand.  Above> Arguments about which line to get into eventually provoked a hissy fit with the female of the couple as she stomped out of the box office and into the busy and strange streets of Wilmington.

Above, far left you will see a ticket scalper.  "I don't understand why people look at me like I'm strange..." she said to me.  "I'm just trying to get rid of these tickets since my daughter can't come to the play..."
Sure she can't come....

People talking to themselves and even arguing with themselves.  Some pedestrians were having a real hard time walking straight and I could've swore the one guy was going to meander right into a light pole!  Whew.  Close call.
I didn't notice the attire of the fellow above  until he turned the corner.  He was in front of us and screaming at someone about
stuffing a foot up their *^&*@*!
The parking was free, however a sign said that we should park at our own risk.
 Okay...
Everything in the trunk!!

The Jason Bishop Show was great, though.  And he asked us to stick around after he signed autographs so we could talk and get hugs and pictures.

Dear Diary,

Suitcases. Vacation. More hugs than usual. I knew it could only mean one thing.  I'd be spending the night alone.  No wonder I got the dysentery.  My nerves are shot.

But then, Lindsey and Rissie stopped by to
take me outside and to feed me. They came by again... and again...
I guess I'll be okay.  Gracie.

Positive People

I work in a hearing aid office.
Several months ago it was with a sad heart, (and after my hubby told me that he died), that I scribbled deceased on Dale Wilkinson's file and tucked that file away neatly in the closet with the other deceased files.
You can imagine my surprise when the phone rang last week and Dale's voice was on the other end requesting an appointment.  Yes, you guessed it.  Dale was back from the dead.
Note to self:  Always investigate thoroughly when a patient's name is found in the obituaries.

Though Dale hadn't died, he had come close.  The past year wasn't a good one for him and he was in the hospital with no hope of recovery.  Against all odds, Dale pulled through and his positive attitude never left him.  Next stop - Nursing home.  "I'm staying 17 days!" Dale told them there... even though they were calculating his $$, his home value, savings etc.

Seventeen days later, he was home.

Dale lives alone and manages just fine, even though he is in the final stages of kidney failure, needs his mobile chair often, and can't live without his oxygen.  He is in his early 90's.  Since he refuses dialysis, it's important for him to be careful about what he eats and especially his salt intake.  Once a month (with his doctor's approval) he throws caution to the wind and takes his neighbor out for Chinese food.  He already has some of his garden ready for the year, and told me about everything he will be planting.  If you were to meet Dale, there is no way you would not smile.  Why?  Because that's a requirement in order to be involved in conversation with him.  You have to smile.  He says so.

Positive people.  They make a difference.

If you're reading this, don't forget to smile.  Otherwise, Dale would not give me permission to post this picture of him.

A Dogs Life

Dear Diary,

  'A dogs life'
It's a cushy life if you're a dog... at least that's what they say.  All us dogs do is eat, sleep, beg food, play ball, and potty.

Ha!  I'd like to know what dog that is.  Walk in my paws once...  see how a dog really lives.

First of all...  I have a job to do every single day.  I watch the house.  It's not easy either, what with strangers walking up and down the road and buses, mail carriers, and other animals  lurking about.

And then, if one of your peoples get sick.  Guess who's nurse?

A dog's work is never done.  Oh, it's not the keeping the feet warm or the face wet with kisses that's the hard part.

It's the worry.  Will my people i.e. Mom or Dad ever get better and play ball with me again?

It snowed out today.  Just a few inches Dad said.  More later. Hmm.  I can't really be thinking of that right now.

Even though I'd like to go scamper about and forget all my cares...

I have a job to do.  And while I'm being nurse to Mom and helping her get better...

These guys have promised to watch
 the house for me.

*Yawn*
Like I said before...
 It's not easy being me.

But Mom says I'm doing a wonderful job and she's starting to feel better already.  Gracie.

Question

Good Morning Everyone...

I got a new phone.  The Mesmerize.   My Blackberry was acting up.  So far, so good...    There are a few things I can't figure out.  Forever learning.

I've had one of these colds for the last few weeks.  You know... the kind where you wake up and you have a horrible headache, stuffy nose and sore throat, but as the day goes by and you start drinking hot beverage, it starts to loosen up except you have laryngitis.  *Sigh*

I've been trying to refrain from complaints... especially since this is my least favorite time of year anyway.

I've been visiting some different blogs.  The web is thick with amazing people...  I'm enjoying meeting them and knowing about their lives.  So many have so much to offer... and I'm learning a thing or two.

I love the blogs with music playing but I can't figure out how to do that.  That could open up a whole new world of fun for me.  Does anybody know how to do this?

Another question.  Does anybody in the medical profession know:  Will they still do my surgery on Friday if I have this cold?   I don't have a fever, just a miserable existence in my head.  I do want to get this over with and behind me...

Okay.  That's all.  Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.
