HAPPY ENDINGS...

To appreciate what I'm about to tell you, you should first  read my post of  Oct. '10 about

And now for the rest of the story....

Jimmy called me about a month ago wanting to know our address.

JIM:  "I'll be sending you and Gary the money I owe you..."

ME:  "What money?"

JIM:  "The money I borrowed when my car broke down and I had to get another one."

ME:  "That was five years ago!  Forget it Jim.  I did."

But Jimmy didn't forget.

Then he told me the rest of the story.

He was months behind on his rent, overdrawn on his checking account, and down on his luck once again... about as low as he could get.

He was expecting that he might be living
out of his car once again.

He called his bank to see just how much he was overdrawn only to find that there was a very large amount of money in his bank account.

"WHAT?!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"  he asked.

No Jimmy...  they were not kidding you.  It is for real!

Several months ago he filed for disability from the service, not thinking that he would get 100% disability.  But he did, and he received a settlement of back pay from years ago.

And he is now going back 20-30 years and repaying debt that had long been forgotten.

Past landlords, credit unions, friends and relatives, banks...  anyone to whom he has been indebted,
he is trying to make it right.

Jimmy will be getting a very nice monthly income now from his disability and I don't expect that he'll ever have to worry about living out of his car again.

Oh how I love happy endings...

  3. Mom Beaglebratzhere-
I just had to comment on this. First, yes, I did read the earlier post about Jimmy but even if I hadn't I would have understood anyway. Both my dad and brother are veterans and my sister-in-law is still active duty in the Reserves. My mom was a Veteran's Administration Medical Center and I am now - 26+years. I know what these guys/gals go through after they are discharged from the military. I have to read many of the medical records for my job and read about what they have gone through during their military careers. No, I don't believe we (the government) are doing enough for our veterans - no military or veteran should ever have to be homeless. However when I read stories about veterans getting real help like your brother Jimmy - at least that is one more step in the right direction.

  6. Wow! what a great story. Thank goodness he is going to be alright from now on. He sure has a heart of gold trying to pay back his old debts.
You know, come to think of it, I just read an article this morning and wondered why it caught my eye. I now think it did because I'm supposed to share it with you so you can pass it on to him.:

Just in case he might need to read this. It never hurts to know these kinds of things, specially if he is disabled.

  7. I love a happy ending, too, and as another one with a brother who's experienced difficulties adjusting to life, I know just how happy this must make you.

I appreciate Jimmy serving our country, and I'm so glad he's getting some compensation for it. Praise God for His great love for Jimmy, and that He made provision for him!

  9. Bobbi,
That is the best news! There are so many very sad stories out there that it is so good to hear this story. Your brother is getting what he deserves and I'm thankful he is paying back those who helped him. God is Good. Bless you all.

  14. Mom Beaglebratz again - remember in my other comment I said I don't believe our government is not doing enough to care for the veterans - I just heard a CBS news reports that proves this. Jimmy should consider himself one of the lucky ones to get the refund and backpay he did - I pray that his monthly check from now on will sustain him through life.

The report said that the big multi-billion dollar settlement between banks and the public to assist people who need to refinance their homes to prevent foreclosure - that settlement will not help veterans with VA loans. So much for the good feeling I had after reading Jimmy's story but I am so thrilled for Jimmy that the VA did come through for him.

  15. I am so happy to learn of this good news... Jimmy reminds me of my uncle that is living out of his truck right now.... he is a Vietnam Vet and has a lot of problems.....

I am thrilled that Jimmy has received this blessing, especially for you, Bobbi, because I know what it's like to fret and worry over a loved one in such circumstances.... I will be praying for Jimmy.... and I am so excited that he is paying the debts he owes, that shows real character......

Here's a big hug for you, precious friend,
    Jenni
